长春电视台成立于1985年8月，1985年8月1日开播，英文简称CTV。2001年7月1日根据国家广播电视总局的决定，长春电视台与长春有线电视台合并为全新的长春电视台。整合后的长春电视台对两台原有的电视频道进行了重新规划，2004年1月1日以综合频道(CTV-1)、娱乐频道(CTV-2)、市民生活频道(CTV-3)、商业频道(CTV-4)和新知频道(CTV-5)五个频道播出，每天为电视观众提供100小时的电视节目，形成了系统化新的播出体系。
