阿拉善电视台1981年初建立，1986年经国家广播电影电视部正式批准建台并开始播出自办节目。
目前电视台开办两套自办节目，其中一套节目为新闻综合频道，全年总播出时间为2007小时，全年自制节目208小时，二套节目为经济生活频道，全年总播出时间为2007小时，全年自制节目为156小时。

播出的主要自办节目有：
●《阿拉善新闻》（汉），周一至周六播出，每期10分钟；
●《阿拉善新闻》（蒙）每周一、三、五播出，每期10分钟；
●《阿左旗新闻》每周日播出，每期10分钟；
●新闻评论性节目《记者观察》每周日播出，每期10分钟；
●蒙语栏目《蓝色戈壁》每周二、四播出，每期10分钟。
