西藏电视台藏语卫视于1999年正式开播，每天播出大量的藏语专栏节目和藏语影视译制片，现有藏语电视栏目21个，深受西藏各族人民的喜爱。
自2007年10月1日起，藏语卫视实现了24小时滚动播出。西藏电视台藏语卫视从成立之初就以说老百姓的心窝话、讲老百姓的日常事、解老百姓的难题为目标，把藏语频道办成真正属于并服务于广大老百姓的频道。藏语频道办有六档新闻节目，十三档社教、综艺、服务类栏目，同时还播出大量的专题片、纪录片、科教片等，这些节目以贴近老百姓生活而广受欢迎。
