重庆电视台国际频道是重庆电视台第十一套节目，是重庆广播电视集团（总台）根据市委、市政府提出的“让世界了解重庆、让重庆走向世界” 这一要求所做出的一个具有前瞻性的战略决策，其目的就是在重庆媒体中打造出一个真正走向世界的外宣平台。
国家广电总局正式复函批准成立重庆电视台国际频道，这标志着重庆广播电视集团（总台）在实现“世界知名、中国一流、西部第一”的战略目标中又向前迈出了重要的一步，播出时称“重庆电视台国际频道”。同意该频道使用重庆电视台的台标。该频道通过TVB澳洲卫星电视直播平台播出，组建重庆电视台国际频道（即专门用于在海外播出的电视节目频道）。
截止2007年底，重庆广电集团（总台）与26家境外广播电视媒体建立了友好合作关系。众多的海外传播途径和重庆电视台国际频道自身在海外的频道资源，确保我们能够更好地让世界了解重庆。同时也是重庆企业和重庆各区、市、县对外宣传的一个很好的窗口。
