新余市广播电视台是根据省市关于文化体制改革的部署和要求，由原新余人民广播电台和原新余电视台（原新余电视台1985年9月26日进行试播，同年的11月26日正式开播）合并组建而成，为市委直属正县级全额拨款社会公益类事业单位，归口市委宣传部管理。2012年5月31日，新余市广播电视台正式挂牌成立。
