西藏卫视于1985年8月20日正式成立，位于西藏自治区首府拉萨市。西藏卫视的规模从筹建初期的2间简易的活动平房发展到拥有现代化演播室及现代化办公设施于一体的电视节目翻译、制作、播出中心，拥有固定资产上亿元；人数从初创时期的4人发展到400多人，从业人员中80%以上都是专业院校毕业生，高级职称人员占7%。西藏卫视拥有汉语卫视和藏语卫视两个频道。其中，汉语卫视自办栏目14个，节目制作量平均每天114分钟；藏语卫视，自办栏目15个，节目制作量平均每天71分钟，藏语影视年译制近200小时。
