2020年5月，国家广电总局批准广州市广播电视台将生活、少儿、购物三个专业电视频道整合为南国都市频道，采用4K超高清方式播出。
广州电视台少儿频道于2005年1月10日开播，收视范围以广州为核心覆盖珠江三角洲。以家庭为收视核心，辐射家庭中的青少年和家长，节目内容围绕孩子成长中所需要的各项元素：教育资讯、教育实操方法、心理辅导、言论空间、休闲活动等；风格轻松娱乐，为广州及珠江三角洲广大市民提供一个参与、互动的平台。

平民、实用、互动、对话和本地化是频道的最大特征。在内容定位上主要针对中学生以上的年轻新锐阶层，也同时兼顾儿童需要设立节目。在语言定位上使用双语传播：教育类型节目用普通话，家庭主打节目偏重粤语。在形象上强调亲近新一代，阳光、进取、活力、贴近、前卫、沟通和平民的特征。
