张掖电视台是张掖市委、政府最主要的新闻舆论宣传机构之一，也是全张掖市受众最多、影响力最大的大众传播媒介。下设总编室、新闻部、技术部、专题文艺部、广告部、公共频道部等业务部室。
2012年6月，文化体制改革后的张掖市广播电视台作为党和政府的喉舌，主要承担着以市委、市政府决策和部署为中心的各项新闻宣传任务，肩负着传播先进文化、引导正确舆论导向的使命，担负着中央台、省台6套节目、市级2套电视节目及中央、省上2套、市级1套广播节目的无线发射和覆盖县区工作；承担着张掖对外形象宣传的策划及全市各类反映经济社会成果，市委、市政府中心工作专题片的制作任务。
2012年6月，文化体制改革后进行局台分离，在原电视台基础上，成立了张掖市广播电视台。
