1997年，随着香港回归祖国。香港这个中西文化交融的国际都市，中华文化与世界文化之间的交流和融合日益频繁。2001年，中国加入WTO之际，我国老一辈媒体人在中国香港特别行政区创立：环球卫视工作室，秉承“立足中国香港，面向全世界”的宗旨，致力为全世界的国家和人民提供高质量的新闻和高端媒体内容。
2018年，随着国际形势变化和业务发展的需要，环球卫视工作室团队购买了香港国际电视台载体，结合原有的香港国际电视台的国际电视传媒等优势，正式更名成立：环球卫视国际广播电视集团，英文名：GLOBAL SATELLITE TV INTERNATIONAL BROADCASTING GROUP，（英文缩写简称）：GBSTV，并获得中华人民共和国知识产权局商标局批准注册。
环球卫视国际广播电视是全球唯一无区域名注册限制的环球卫视，拥有独立的台标注册商标，全球业务范围，是目前唯一一家享有联合国教科文联合会官方联系地位的国际广播电视。
目前，环球卫视国际广播电视集团业务已遍及全球一百多个国家和地区，在国际广播电视媒体等领域享有盛誉。集团目前拥有和在建规划有互联网，媒体，赛事，电影，电视，环球卫视影视城、文化园、创意园、综合园，环球卫视大厦，影视论坛，电影电视节，主题活动等等版块，计划租用亚太等系列卫星和独立开发互联网APP，辐射全球大部分国家和地区，并进入数字科技行业等领域。
GBSTV现拥有GBSTV-01新闻台、GBSTV-02经济台、GBSTV-03文化台、GBSTV-04国际台、GBSTV-05华人台、GBSTV-06港澳台、GBSTV-07农业台、GBSTV-08科技台、GBSTV-09教育台、GBSTV-10健康台等39个网络台，后续根据集团业务的发展和市场需求，租用亚太等系列卫星和独立开发互联网APP，逐步实现卫星电视的形式展播，辐射全球，并在全球主要国家和地区设立记者站、采编中心和地区运营中心。
环球卫视国际广播电视集团总部，位于中国香港特别行政区，节目制作中心位于首都北京，项目运营中心设在广州市，国际项目中心设在上海市。节目制作中心、项目运营中心、国际项目中心由环球卫视国际广播电视集团董事局执行委员会直接管理，督查组负责巡视和督办项目，监事委员会负责总监督。
