环翠广播电视台1996年1月18日正式开播。实行局（台）合一体制，现有干部职工200多人。内设10个职能部室和9个乡镇广播电视管理站，下辖环翠广电宽带网络有限公司、威海明珠广播电视广告有限公司和环翠区电影发行放映公司。自办电视节目一套，开设有《环翠新闻》、《直播民生》、《衣食住行》、《威海商务》、《非常舞台》、《环翠科技》、《健康网站》、《生活》等10多个新闻、经济、生活、教育和娱乐类栏目。其中，《环翠新闻》、《直播民生》和《衣食住行》经过多次改版和创新，已发展成为地方名牌栏目。
2009年年末，环翠广播电视台投资建设网络新媒体平台——威海卫视网——whwtv，平台以打造地方视频第一网站为目标，整合环翠广播电视台的品牌、新闻及娱乐视频、网络服务等资源，更植根播客分享等草根资源，架起主流媒体与网友的沟通桥梁。在整合电视台优势资源的基础上，威海卫电视网努力打造视频直播、B2C电子商城、自助广告、旅游资源推介、3G手机门户等新锐特色可运营商业模式，为电视产业化发展开辟新的道路。
