十堰电视台新闻频道前身是原十堰电视台，创立于1984年，是十堰地区第一家电视媒体。2001年春，频道开始独立运作，更名为十堰电视台新闻综合频道，2003年7月又更名为十堰电视台新闻频道。新闻频道作为十堰市委、市政府的主要舆论阵地之一，具有党台的政治权威性。
十堰市广播电视台位于十堰市人民北路繁华地段，2002年6月，原十堰市广播电视局与所属十堰人民广播电台、十堰电视台、十堰有线电视台重组，建立了局台合一的新体制。内设党委办、行管办、宣传办、技术办、财务办、劳资办、经营办、纪检监察室和老干部科等九个职能办、科、室；局（台）旗下拥有电视频道五个、广播频率三个，广电报社、网络公司、广告中心、信息资讯网各一家和广播电视信号发射台四座共十六个单位，形成了以新闻宣传、网络传输、数字电视、市场营销为系统，事业产业兼容并举的广播电视业运作新格局，构建了与全市所辖五县一市两区的广播电视局（台）事业建设和产业经营的互动共进行业共同体。
